Position Summary

Promotive is hiring an experienced Master Diagnostic Technician for a highly respected, family-run independent repair shop in Centreville, MI.

This is not your typical technician role. We’re looking for a true diagnostic specialist who enjoys solving complex electrical, drivability, network communication, and module-related issues. Unlike many shops, this position is heavily focused on diagnostics and troubleshooting. Once issues are accurately identified, repairs are often completed by supporting technicians, allowing you to stay focused on advanced diagnostics rather than spending your day performing routine component replacement work.

If you enjoy being the person everyone turns to when other technicians can’t find the answer, this opportunity was built for you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced diagnostics and troubleshooting on domestic, Asian, European, hybrid, and light-duty diesel vehicles
  • Diagnose complex electrical, drivability, module communication, and network-related concerns
  • Utilize advanced scan tools, lab scopes, and testing equipment to accurately identify vehicle issues
  • Analyze waveform data and testing results to diagnose intermittent and difficult-to-find problems
  • Perform voltage drop testing, circuit load testing, parasitic draw testing, and electrical system analysis
  • Diagnose CAN Bus, network communication, and module-related concerns
  • Perform module programming, coding, and configuration when required
  • Provide diagnostic direction and technical support to B-Level and C-Level technicians
  • Complete Digital Vehicle Inspections (DVIs) and repair documentation using Tekmetric
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment
  • Participate in ongoing paid training and certification development

Qualifications

  • Michigan Master Technician License (or ability to obtain shortly after hire)
  • ASE certifications preferred, including L1 Advanced Engine Performance Specialist
  • Strong electrical diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience using advanced scan tools, lab scopes, oscilloscopes, and testing equipment
  • Ability to accurately diagnose complex drivability and performance concerns
  • Experience with module programming and network diagnostics preferred
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
